Meet the Masters Art Program

Meet the Masters

Meet the Masters, a wonderful art program, introduces students to famed artists and allows them to explore and create different types of art.  This infusion of art history and art activities engages all students from Kindergarten to Grade 5.

Each month, students learn about a different artist.  First, they attend an assembly hosted by a Meet the Masters teacher who introduces the monthly artist through a slideshow and art samples.  Students learn about the artist’s life, his/her art, and techniques. Our program at St. Hedwig is a mixture of art appreciation and application.

Following the assembly, parent volunteers participate in a training to learn about the artist and are guided on how to teach the art lesson for the students.  Then, parent volunteers collaborate with classroom teachers to deliver the art lesson and help students create their own piece of art.  Students always astound with their creative and unique pieces of art.  For the 2019-2020 school year, students will learn about the following artists:

  • Joan Miro
  • Grant Wood
  • Henri Matisse
  • Frida Kahlo
  • Edgar Degas
  • Georgia O'Keefe
  • M.C. Escher
