Liturgical Celebrations

We are committed to guiding students as they develop their faith lives and integrating Catholic values, Catholic identity, and faith formation throughout the curriculum. On Holy Days of Obligation, the students attend Mass with the parish community. Teachers also bring their classes to attend daily Mass on occasion.

St. Hedwig Catholic School has many of its own traditions that guide students in the development of their spirituality and bring the school together as a community of faith.

Living Rosary

During October, the month of the Rosary, student representatives lead the school community (students, parents and parishioners) in a Living Rosary. Student representatives hold candles that represent each bead of the rosary. As the school community prays the Hail Mary, a new candle is lit.

Advent and Lent

During the Season of Advent, student representatives lead the school in a prayer service reflecting on how we can prepare for the coming of Jesus Christ.  Advent wreaths are placed in each classroom as students learn what each candle represents and say weekly prayers. Family activities, including prayers for Advent, are also sent home.

Students in Grades 3-8 also receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation during Advent.

Lent

Following our Ash Wednesday service, students learn the significance of the ashes. We focus on the Three Pillars of Lent: prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Students are provided with various opportunities to demonstrate these pillars.

Our 7th grade students host the Living Stations of the Cross, guiding students as we walk with Jesus and understand the great gift He has given us. Students in grades 3-8 also receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation during the Lenten Season.

May Crowning

This is a very special celebration of Mary, led by our 8th grade and 2nd grade students. Our 2nd grade students who have just received their First Holy Communion join with their 8th grade Friendship Partners to honor Mary. They lead the school community (parents, students, parishioners, and teachers) in a special Mass. Two 8th grade students chosen by their classmates crown Mary.

Special Feast Days

Special religious events, such as St. Hedwig Feast Day and the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe, are celebrated as a school community at Morning Assembly.
